Exploration work undertaken within an area located 80 km north of Yunta and just to the south of Baratta has concentrated on two regional targets: Cainozoic sediments hosting possible alluvial gold, evaporite and uranium deposits, and Neoproterozoic metasediment-hosted gold and base metal deposits. Initially, the most favoured target was an historic alluvial gold prospect located in the southern portion of the tenement. Preliminary results from the analysis of several stream sediment samples were positive for gold. Heavy mineral analyses of other surface grab samples taken in the northern portion of the tenement were not encouraging. Examination of several playa lakes suggests that economic evaporite deposits might exist in this region. A thorium anomaly identified in the airborne radiometric data acquired over a playa lake in the east of the tenement was confirmed by ground follow-up, when scintillometer readings gave a thorium response which was slightly elevated above background. The Battle Mountain prospect is situated east of the Origin Energy gas pipeline in the southern end of the tenement. In 1987 Battle Mountain Pty Ltd had identified anomalous alluvial and quartz-hosted gold there, in the vicinity of the old Erina reef gold workings, by conducting several geochemical and stream sediment surveys, concentrating on the area adjacent to an east-west oriented quartz reef. This reef is approx 0.5 to 1 m wide, with a steep dip to the north, and can be traced intermittently to the west. The Helene shaft, dug into a ferruginous outcrop, marks the western end of the quartz reef. During 2006 the present licensees carried out geological mapping and rock chip sampling to trace the lateral extent of gold- bearing quartz veins south of Battle Mountain's gold anomaly. A study of the gravity and magnetic data for the tenement area revealed a large number of NNE, ENE or east-striking magnetic lineaments, including some very dominant ones in the north and to the east of the licence. Preliminary drilling targets were identified, and a recommendation was made to acquire a new detailed high-quality aeromagnetic survey which would provide much more information about the near-surface structure of the area. Such a survey would also include radiometric data acquisition, which it was hoped could be of much use for studying the near-surface geology. However, a lack of success in attracting joint venture partners to fund such activities led to a decision to surrender the licence near the end of its fourth year.
