An area situated about 60 km west of Coober Pedy is being explored for possible economic iron oxide - associated copper-gold deposits hosted within Palaeoproterozoic basement rocks of the Mabel Creek Gravity High. A tectonic re-interpretation of the gravity and aeromagnetic data available for this area indicates that up to four strongly-developed structural deformation systems are present. These are WNW, NW, ENE and NE - trending features, which determine the overall structural complexity and geological setting of possible mineralisation. The basement lithologies of the Mabel Creek High intersected in previous drilling include granite, gneiss and banded iron formation which are correlated with similar rocks that comprise the Mount Woods Inlier, and which form the sequence hosting the Prominent Hill IOCG deposit. The following activities have occurred that took place in part on the now relinquished portions of EL 3455: • Initial project generation work undertaken by Minotaur included stitching and gridding of the available gravity datasets at 100 m spacing. A 5 mGal residual gravity anomaly, G3, was identified within a regional gravity corridor passing across the Mabel Creek area. • A detailed gravity survey in undertaken in 2000, which incorporated 42 stations lying within the now relinquished portions of EL 3455, was predominantly focussed over the G3 anomaly. • Vertical diamond drillhole G3DDH001 was collared on the peak of the G3 anomaly in 2001. Variably altered intermediate to mafic cumulate rocks, skarns, biotite amphibolite and plagioclase-biotite schists were encountered, but significant Fe-oxide-Cu-Au mineralisation was absent. • Public domain aeromagnetic and gravity datasets were reprocessed and re-imaged by new joint venture partner Perilya to allow it to evaluate previous explorers’ target generation work. Two new geophysical targets, PER 1 and PER 5, were identified within the now relinquished portions of EL 3455. • During April-May 2003, infill gravity data were collected by Perilya over five areas of interest including PER 5. The process of interpreting this data included merging it with pre-existing gravity data, re-processing the merged data and producing various images. • A regional gravity survey which was completed by subsequent joint venture partner Marathon Resources in May 2005 included acquiring 216 stations within the now relinquished portion of EL 3455. These gravity data too were integrated with all the previously collected data and utilised in the review of targets conducted by Adelaide Mining Geophysics.
