To continue the assessment of the dimension stone and ornamental stone potential of granitic basement outcrops present on EL 2851, a 5-year Retention Lease, RL 116, was taken out on 7/2/2006 to cover 5.9 ha of the Middle Camp granite pluton. Several 2.5 tonne blocks were extracted from the existing old quarry workings in September 2006, and these were cut into tiles and cubes of various sizes and then polished, preparatory to distributing them to potential customers. It has been decided that the outcrop's closely spaced and regular joint pattern will preclude it from yielding any 20-tonne blocks that would be economic to export in the raw state. In a separate search for possible economic base and precious metal deposits, a farminee company carried out a literature review and GIS-based data synthesis, which included commissioning a remote sensing study by a consultant based on multispectral satellite imagery (Landsat 7 enhanced thematic mapper scenes), to derive an interpretation of locally prospective surface structures and mineral alteration zones discernable at 1:100,000 scale. The latter work produced 40 features of apparent interest, but subsequent ground inspection and geochemical sampling at these sites did not reveal anything anomalous. Only 3 of the Landsat features yielded weak copper, gold or zinc anomalies (max. 347 ppm Cu, 2 ppb Au) that may warrant more detailed sampling. Orientation soil sampling which was carried out at the historic Yalpoundie copper mine and at the historic Miltalie silver-lead mine has indicated that the minus 80 micron fraction is the most enriched in trace metals, but in each case the dispersion train is very restricted, to < 100 m from the lode mineralisation.
