Exploration for possible economic epithermal, shear-related Proterozoic gold deposits within two small areas of the Gawler Ranges situated close to the southern shoreline of Lake Gairdner has consisted only of a consultant's prospectivity review and the subsequent drilling of 3 vertical RC drillholes each 250 m deep to test selected gravity anomalies. No significant gold was detected, but elevated uranium was disclosed in the drill cuttings (best assay value 4.42 ppm U from the depth interval 10-20 m in hole RMGLRC02). Further work targeting possible sedimentary uranium occurrences that may have formed in Cenozoic palaeochannels draining into and beneath Lake Gairdner was planned but was never completed, due to unresolved impediments with gaining land access onto Lake Gairdner.
