This project was initiated by PIRSA to augment their marketing campaign toattract new hydrocarbon explorers to the Arrowie by providing new insights into itsgeology and hence reduce exploration risk. SRK was contracted in March 2001 toprovide an integrated regional interpretation of basement composition, structureand depth in the eastern Arrowie Basin, and investigate the effect of basementgeology on basin evolution and petroleum systems. SRK?s approach primarily relies on the interpretation of magnetic and gravity data,calibrated with many other datasets including mapped geology, topography, eventhistories, wells and seismic. SRK utilizes a ?bottom-up? approach to basin analysis,starting with a rigorous understanding of basement geology. By integrating theplate-scale kinematic event history for the area of interest, a interpretation of thebasin?s structural evolution through time can be mapped. Combined with aSEEBASE* map of depth to basement, this data can be used to understand basinphase distribution and petroleum systems.
