An area surrounding Mount Wedge in the Polda district, 30 km north-east of Elliston, was taken up to explore for possible economic Tertiary heavy mineral sands deposits. However, the results of an internal review of the tenement's prospectivity, based on Iluka's knowledge gained from adjacent tenements, indicated that economic HM resources were unlikely to exist there. Also, envisaged problems of attempting to mine the sediments in this area, which constitute an important fresh water source, and then being required to manage subsequent groundwater supply problems, would far outweigh the benefits of accessing any potential mineralisation, and would not be feasible. Accordingly, Iluka chose to surrender EL4221 in its entirety without doing any drilling or other on-ground exploration work.
