Abstract (Continued from Part 1): Because of the presence of the highest gold concentration at the eastern end of the Target 14 aircore drill traverse, potential remains for delineating further mineralisation at this locality. In addition, the nature of the bedrock at the Target 12 anomaly still remains undetermined owing to the greater depth to basement plus the hard drilling conditions within fresh rock. It was observed by Redport that the variably intensively sheared and mylonitised Mulgathing Complex granitic basement drilled at Target 8 (Comet West) and at Target 14 commonly contains deformed garnet which has been retrogradely metamorphosed to biotite. This contrasts to the character of the granites that were drilled 30 km further to the west (at Eaglehawk and Neverfail, heading towards Challenger), where little deformation has occurred and the garnet porphyroblasts remain intact. However, it appears that predicting the intensity of shearing and mylonitization in the bedrock is less clear, since these properties have proved difficult to correlate against aeromagnetic features. No new field work was conducted on the subject licence area (EL 3030) from November 2002 until a decision was made in October 2006 to allow the licence tenure to lapse. Reported activity consisted only of the continuing office appraisal of the data arising from the September 2002 drilling programme.
