Exploration for possible diapir-related, discordant and stratabound sediment-hosted base and precious metals in an area located 32 km east-northeast of Cradock targeted an anomalous structural feature within Adelaidean metasediments, namely, a concave slab of Tapley Hill Formation, that was inferred to represent the core of a falling (subsiding) diapir. Field mapping and local prospecting in an area of previously recorded stream sediment anomalism revealed a small vein of diapiric breccia associated with conjugate joint slippage in the surrounding rocks, within which there are also some weakly developed, low temperature carbonate-sulphide veins. Also noted in the general vicinity are several brittle sandstone units containing ferruginous quartz veins that are slightly anomalous in gold and arsenic. The style of diapirism observed in the licence area appeared to Helix to largely be dominated by fluid through-flow, consistent with its model of an unbreached falling diapir. However, the apparently low temperature, metal-poor nature of these fluids, and the probable restricted geometry of any likely fluid leakage alteration zone, led to a decision being made to surrender tenure.
