In a search for possible economic iron oxide - associated copper-gold (IOCG) deposits, gold only deposits or sedimentary uranium deposits, within an area of potentially strongly altered granitic and volcanic rocks lying adjacent to the east-west trending Yerda Shear Zone, licensee Minotaur Exploration undertook outcrop geological studies and surface geochemical sampling, a regional gravity survey, and exploratory RC and aircore drilling. During October 2003, the company acquired a new 1 km x 2 km gravity survey across the entire licence (465 stations, including some 500 m x 250 m infill readings at selected sites). Two significant gravity anomalies were defined that coincide with an inferred buried eastwards splay extension of the Yerda Shear Zone beneath Gawler Range Volcanics strata. After some delay in securing a drilling rig, each gravity anomaly was tested during November 2005; one RC hole for 252 m was put down at the 3.8 mGal Kokatha anomaly, and another RC hole to the same depth at the ~5 mGal Cooramundie anomaly. Hole KK05R01 encountered mainly andesite, whereas hole CR05R01 drilled into rhyodacite-dacite. No anomalous gold, base metal or rare earth assay values were recorded from the downhole samples, and it was concluded that the gravity anomalies are caused by lithological variations within the volcanic rock succession. No degree of hydrothermal alteration was seen. In the following year a reconnaissance field trip was made west of Lake Harris to look at basement outcrops on the western portion of EL 3100. This inspection revealed mylonitised granite, greisen and thin quartz veins carrying anomalous gold. Later, during December 2006, a drilling programme of 15 aircore holes for a total penetration of 873 m was completed in this area to investigate potential Tunkillia style gold mineralisation within a buried north-west trending Palaeoproterozoic shear zone that had been mapped about 5 km to the west of known exposures of Gawler Range Volcanics. This shear zone, a splay off the Yerda Shear Zone, was interpreted as having been intruded by a late stage, magnetite-bearing dolerite dyke. Within it, the actual basement rocks encountered by Minotaur's drillholes included gneiss, schist, mylonite and dolerite. However, the drill chip gold and base metal assay values were disappointingly low, e.g. a maximum of 0.08 ppm Au over the depth interval 24-28 m in hole CH06A002, and a maximum of 17 ppm U from the depth interval 16-20 m in hole CH06A011. The prospectivity of the licence area to host roll-front uranium mineralisation within Tertiary palaeochannels was reviewed by Toro Energy, who carried out an interpretation of ASTER night-time thermal infrared satellite imagery in order to decide whether the flying of an airborne EM survey was warranted. This work downgraded the licence's importance in their view, and because Minotaur had also exhausted any scope for finding sizeable IOCG or gold only deposits there, it was decided to let tenure lapse after no further work was done during 2007-2009.
