In a search for possible economic buried copper-gold mineralisation that might be associated with an inferred south-western extension of the major Anabama - Redan Fault Zone system, the licensee conducted reconnaissance minus 80 mesh stream sediment geochemical sampling (128 samples taken) and BLEG sampling (121 samples), which delineated three weakly anomalous areas, two in gold-silver and one in copper. A 400 m sampling grid was laid out over the best anomaly at North-west Dam, and follow-up minus 20 mesh soil sampling, with composites taken every 50 m, yielded BLEG values of up to 24 ppb Au, while selected rock chip sampling of nearby outcrops (13 samples) returned gold values of up to 0.6 g/t Au. However, further evaluation of these low order anomalies showed that they arose within black shales and quartzites of the Burra Group, and thus were not considered worthy of more work. In a separate exploration programme that started in mid-1991, targeting possible coarse-grained heavy mineral sand accumulations which could have formed within the Pliocene Loxton-Parilla Sand, in proximal onlap depositional settings on the north-western margin of the Murray Basin, three traverses of aircore drilling (29 vertical open holes for 636 m) were completed. No prospective sands were found, with the cover succession consisting only of thin red-brown lateritic clays that overlie saprolite and Proterozoic basement.
