Following the detection in late 1997, by reconnaissance mobile metal ion partial leach analytical methods, of anomalous base and precious metal concentrations in the soil above several low amplitude magnetic anomalies on Tasman Resources' EL 2340, the subject licence was acquired to cover ground to the north, lying immediately west of the northern Willouran Ranges, to ensure tenure over a linear MMI gold anomaly extending beyond EL 2340 that appeared to be associated with the Big North-East magnetic feature. Initial work done on the subject licence area comprised geological mapping and a consultant's interpretation of image enhanced available regional aeromagnetic data, the latter aiming to model shallow-sourced magnetic anomalies which could fit with possible stratabound and structurally controlled, sediment-hosted precious and base metal mineralisation corresponding to the Mount Olympus/Carlin type deposit model. Next, four significant geochemically anomalous, weakly magnetic/lithostratigraphic facies horizons traced from the south were investigated with reconnaissance MMI sampling. The horizons are 20-80 m wide, are spaced about 15 km apart, and have a NNW alignment on EL 2543. 19 soil sampling traverses laid out 2-7 km apart, with a nominal 100 m sample site spacing, were sampled over 53 line km (695 samples). Nine of these traverses returned significant multi-element anomalies, with zinc-nickel-cobalt, zinc-silver and gold-silver associations. The two precious metal anomalous zones occur on the western flank of sandstone strike ridges within the Big NE magnetic feature, where the rocks exhibit silicification discontinuously over > 2.5 km. It is intended to soon conduct detailed follow-up MMI soil sampling to better determine the prospective metal suite and to provide coherent targets for drilling.
