Gold exploration carried out in an area located approximately 160 km north-west of Tarcoola has comprised only limited regional and infill calcrete geochemical sampling performed during October 1996. 72 calcrete samples were taken on a nominal 800 m x 800 m staggered grid pattern laid out to the north-west of Golf Bore, and subsequently another 54 samples were taken at 200 m x 200 m spacing. After a lengthy hiatus, another 19 calcrete samples and 21 soil samples were collected on the licence early in 1999. The results were unremarkable for indicating gold prospectivity. No other field work was undertaken on the subject licence during its 15-year tenure, before a decision was made in May 2009 to surrender it. Dominion Gold had been allowed by the SA Government to retain the Skye licence for such a long time, without doing much work there, because of agreed Gawler Project total exploration expenditure commitments offset across all of the Central Tenement Block licences, which to date have in fact been met and then far exceeded by the licensee meeting the multi-million dollar mine exploration and development costs for the Challenger prospect, besides it attracting significant other secondary expenditures by new joint venturers who have undertaken, or are still in the process of conducting, brownfields exploration for gold, uranium, nickel and iron ore.
