A group of project exploration licences covering the wholly buried Yalata Ultramafic Complex, which occupies an area of approximately 25 km x 75 km that lies partly within the Yalata Aboriginal Reserve to the north-west of Fowlers Bay, are being jointly explored principally for possible economic Voisey's Bay type copper-nickel sulphide deposits and Bushvelt / Stillwater Complex type platinum group metal occurrences formed within the complexes' layered intrusive igneous rocks. Other plausible exploration objectives to be addressed here include Olympic Dam style copper-gold-uranium-rare earth element mineralisation, diamonds in kimberlite, and heavy mineral sand placer deposits. The ultramafic igneous rock complex is one of the largest of its kind known within Australia, but has barely been touched by drilling to date. It is favourably located on an Archaean / Proterozoic unconformity, and exists beneath an estimated 30-150 m depth of younger sedimentary cover. One major geophysical feature of interest in the Toolgerie district is the previously sparsely drilled Landing Ground aeromagnetic anomaly, a linear, 3.4 km long, 2500 nT anomaly having a source that has not yet been identified. Because gaining legitimate access onto the Yalata Aboriginal freehold ground required obtaining both an authorisation from the Governor of South Australia, to be specially enacted through proclamation, and also after that the negotiated consent of the Aboriginal landowners, this process took until early 2009 to complete, and so no actual field work ensued during the subject reporting period. Now that official access is possible, the following work programme has been put in train: - Finalising access arrangements with the Yalata Community, and arranging heritage clearances for a planned gravity survey; - Carry out a gravity survey at selected locations on the interpreted basal margin zone of the Yalata layered intrusive complex (contracted with Solo Geophysics to commence in September 2009); - Complete fences of aircore or RC drilling, as appropriate, at locations defined by the gravity data for the basal margin of the intrusive complex, to investigate its geology and prospectivity for sulphide nickel occurrences (involves a minimum 2,000 m of drillhole penetration); - Perform aircore or RC drilling as appropriate to test the Landing Ground aeromagnetic anomaly defined by earlier explorers; and - Carry out an investigation of the project licences' heavy mineral sands potential.
