In a search for postulated Tertiary heavy mineral sands marine placer deposits that may have been formed outside of the presently known north-eastern extent of such age sedimentary basins (i.e. along a proto Eucla Basin coastline existing within the Arckaringa Basin region), the licensee used recently released satellite image mosaic digital elevation model data to define the positions of potentially favourable depositional traps, many of which have now been drilled. Within EL 4110, which is located about 10 km south of Cadney Park Homestead on the western side of the Stuart Highway, 2 aircore drillholes for a total penetration of 106.5 m were completed 24 km apart beside station tracks in October 2009, following the conclusion of lengthy negotiations with landowners and the conduct of cultural heritage surveys required to allow land access. These stratigraphic drillholes failed to find any occurrences of heavy mineral sands or favourable strata for hosting such. Accordingly, and because of ongoing access restrictions applicable to reserves covering much of the western half of the licence, it was decided to surrender the tenement entirely. Within EL 4111, which is located about 70 km west-northwest of Coober Pedy, a programme of stratigraphic aircore drilling (7 holes for a total penetration of 458 m, put in approximately 10 km apart) was completed along existing station tracks during October 2009, and one drillhole, AR062, encountered at 57 m depth minor amounts of low grade heavy mineral sands that were deposited in thin lenses of transgressive shoreface sands within an offshore sedimentary environment. However, the majority of the drillholes failed to find any signs of such mineralisation or of favourable host strata. As a result, this tenement has also been surrendered entirely. Within EL 4114, which straddles the Stuart Highway for 30 km just to the north of the Cadney Park Roadhouse, 5 widely spaced drillholes for a total penetration of 479 m were completed in early October 2009. As for those drillholes described above, these most northerly situated holes also encountered a thick sequence of silts, silty clays, clays and claystone that is interpreted as being Early Cretaceous continental shelfal sediments of the Great Artesian Basin (Bulldog Shale). Again, the entire sequence is overlain by a silcrete horizon up to 10-15 m thick. Because no heavy minerals or stratigraphic horizons suitable for entrapping them were located during this stratigaphic drilling, the entire tenement has been surrendered.
