Exploration of an Adelaidean sandstone unit outcropping on the western flank of the southern Flinders Ranges, in an area extending from 10 miles to 30 miles north-northeast of Port Augusta, has targeted possible economic hydrothermal/stratabound copper deposits of a type similar to that worked at the Spring Creek mine near Wilmington. Licensee RMC (ReadyMix Concrete) Minerals had a particular interest in finding extensions to the known copper mineralisation historically worked at Robinson's prospect, situated near the headwaters of Emeroo Creek. After allowing Placer Prospecting to take an option over the licence in October 1968, that company's field work comprised geological mapping and regional and detailed stream sediment sampling. The geological mapping showed that sparse copper sulphide mineralisation is confined to a narrow band of chloritic schist 10 to 15 feet wide, interbedded within a sequence consisting chiefly of massive, heavy mineral - laminated quartzite. The strike length of mineralisation exposed at the surface is about 1200 feet, and the surrounding quartzites are completely barren. Results of the geochemical sampling (306 samples) were disappointing (Cu to 235 ppm, Zn to 145 ppm, Pb to 56 ppm), with no encouragement for follow-up exploration anywhere on the licence.
