Reconnaissance stream sediment sampling (4000 samples taken over 5 square miles) and follow-up traverse soil sampling (350 samples) have been completed in the vicinity of the historic Kanappa copper mine, 7 miles north-east of Springton, to look for possible buried extensions to the known lodes. Apart from obvious surface soil contamination derived from the old mine dumps, no significant coherent copper anomalism was found, and it was concluded that deeper sampling of the bedrock would be necessary, in order to avoid uncertainties with interpretation of the positions for sources to transported versus residual soil profile copper traces that were seen to the immediate north of the mine workings. It was then decided that further work was not warranted in this respect. A ground magnetometer profile run across a nearby aeromagnetic anomaly did not disclose any readings likely to be associated with known mineralisation.
