Exploration for Zambian Copperbelt or Broken Hill type base metal sulphide orebodies, plus possible uranium, gold and copper-nickel occurrences in high grade metamorphic rocks, over the Lincoln Uplands adjacent to Port Lincoln, was undertaken using geochemical and geophysical reconnaissance methods. Stream sediment and soil sampling, plus ground-based Crone EM and magnetometry traverses, targeted several EM anomalies found by earlier airborne INPUT EM surveying. Eight prime prospective anomalies were then retained under separate mineral claims, and were subsequently tested by percussion drilling into early Proterozoic bedrock (7 holes, total 163 m, plus a further shallower, 10 hole traverse of Anomaly XX totalling 83 m). No significant evidence of economic mineralisation was encountered. In addition, old mine workings, outcropping ferruginous rocks and the Burrawing prospect were inspected and sampled for base and precious metals. Only low order metal values were returned from sites located away from areas of contamination caused by past mining, and no obvious gossans were seen that might overlie sulphide deposits.
