Reconnaissance geochemical sampling of creeks draining Lower Cambrian sediments in the Kanyaka Hill area has located several lead-zinc anomalies reaching up to seven times background, which are related to the Parachilna Formation limestones. A crush zone noted during geological mapping in the south-east of the licence area gave creek sediment Pb values as high as 1000 ppm. Separate investigation of a reported rare earth anomaly in the vicinity of the Kanyaka mine failed to duplicate the high lanthanum, yttrium and scandium values recorded earlier by Kennecott Explorations. However, as rare earths are significant indicators of carbonatite / kimberlite rocks, further field work will be pursued in this area with the intention of locating any such intrusions similar to the one lately found nearby in Orroroo SML 646.
