Exploration for possible economic uranium and/or base metal mineralisation in the Radium Hill district consisted of a consultants' review of the exploration potential of the area based on data from existing mines and prospects, plus the conduct of a large reconnaissance surface geochemical survey to look for any hydrothermal dispersions that might be associated with the major MacDonald Fault Zone. 1163 rock samples and 1500 soil samples were collected at 400 foot intervals across a grid covering 16 square miles, and analysed for copper, lead and zinc. About 20% of the samples were also analysed for the three main terrestrial radionuclides, to determine both their spatial distributions and also their ratio values. The results included a noteworthy correlation of high K values with the central parts of some broad linear Cu and Zn anomalies, which suggested that hydrothermal ore-forming systems may have been active at these locations.
