Evaluation of the Mount Fitton No. 19 talc prospect discovered in 1964, and situated some 3 miles south-east of the current main talc workings and company camp, has included a topographical survey, the wagon drilling of 49 vertical holes, and the cutting of one bulldozer trench over a length of 250 feet to a depth of about 10 feet. The bulk of the material uncovered has proven to be just as discoloured as the surface exposures, being a deep brownish-red to off-white talc-like mineral with sandy/silty lenses and a few quartz pebbles. It is probably derived from an impure dolomitic source rock by decomposition in situ. The indicated extent of the material is not as large as had been hoped for. Although the indeterminate talcose mineral which is present possesses exceptionally good physical properties of slip, the technical conclusion was that it is too discoloured and impure to be worked profitably at such a remote location.
