Economic deposits of iron-oxide associated copper-gold mineralisation of the Moonta-Wallaroo or Olympic Dam style, hosted in Palaeoproterozoic basement rocks of the Moonta Sub-domain, were targeted by exploration in three now surrendered licences, with areas variously located surrounding and south of Port Broughton, and extending between Port Pirie and Port Augusta along the western margin of the southern Flinders Ranges. Avoca Resources' initial review of historic drillhole data, and an in-house interpretation of new and historic geophysical datasets, was followed by targeted soil sampling for sample analysis by partial leach (water) and enzyme leach methods. Orientation MMI soil geochemical sampling was carried out beforehand at Redhill, over a magnetic anomaly interpreted as a possible kimberlite diatreme present below thick cover. The assay data were checked by plotting response ratios for pathfinder trace elements, but did not reveal a significant response over the position of the target magnetic anomaly. The subsequent 2-4 km spaced first pass partial leach soil sampling was undertaken at the Redhill, Wokurna and Katinka magnetic anomalies. The assay results of enzyme leaching of 189 samples were encouraging, with coincident positive Cu-REE-U anomalism evident over Redhill and minor elevated Ce present at Wandearah. The structural setting of the Katinka anomaly, which lies mainly offshore in Spencer Gulf, was re-interpreted following good results from diamond drilling carried out at the Glensea prospect on Avoca's adjoining EL 3016. Katinka occupies the northern part of a magnetic alteration halo that surrounds a Hiltaba Suite pluton (the 'Tickera Granite'). Previously recorded drilling of the onshore section of this halo had encountered copper and rare earth element mineralisation near its edge. An infill gravity survey, consisting of 191 stations read along east-west lines at 500 m station spacing, was acquired over the Wokurna gravity anomaly during September 2002 and February 2003. Follow-up MMI sampling was also conducted at Wokurna, at 1 km spacing, over coincident gravity and Cu-Au in water leach anomalies. The resulting soil geochemical anomalies were shown to peak on the south side of the Broughton River, and to overlap a residual gravity anomaly with a source modelled to lie 250 m below the surface. It has been recommended that this target should be diamond drilled as soon as possible. The Redhill target comprises a number of discrete magnetic anomalies originating at a depth of 100-150 m, that may be related to kimberlite diatremes. The results of the partial leach surface geochemical sampling done here were inconclusive, but it is considered that this target should also be tested with drilling as soon as possible.

Notes: The Moonta North Project combined annual reports submitted for the period 19/4/2002 until present remain confidential until further notice, since they contain embedded data that pertain to ELs (other than the subject ELs) which still remain under tenure. No field work was conducted on the subject licences after mid-2003, from when unsuccessful attempts were made to attract a joint venture partner to advance exploration on certain prospects, before it was decided to surrender the ground.
