The disturbed soil profiles at 29 historic light to heavy industrial sites in the city of Hindmarsh were investigated to determine their respective levels of hazard contamination and suitability after rehabilitation for undergoing residential development. A number of the now infilled, formerly deeply excavated pugholes were found to contain low to moderate levels of hazardous chemical contaminants, that will require removal before the land is safe to build on.
