In a search for possible Voiseys Bay style magmatic nickel-copper mineralisation within an area of historical small scale surface mining activity located approximately 60-70 km north-east of Leigh Creek, the licensee conducted a brief campaign of reconnaissance field work during 2007, and commissioned the flying of a helicopter-borne RepTEM survey in June 2007 over the favoured historic Gills Bluff prospect (189.1 line km of north-south lines spaced 250 m apart), to investigate reported anomalous base metal showings in several mine workings. The field work comprised inspection and cursory geological mapping of the Gills Bluff mine and several nearby prospects, plus 100 m x 100 m gridding at the former, to allow for a systematic soil (84 samples) and rock chip (6 samples) geochemical assessment. The sample assay values were not very encouraging, with a best result of 1565 ppm Ni obtained from a rock chip sample of a 10 cm wide vein stockwork taken from near a secondary mine shaft at Gills Bluff. Although some moderately interesting AEM anomalies were discerned here, the planned follow-up detailed soil sampling and RC drilling of these did not eventuate due to staffing shortages, weather hindrances (flash flooding) and unresolved problems with gaining negotiated access onto certain private land holdings. Eventually the licensee decided that the EM targets did not warrant such further evaluation, and it chose to surrender tenure after no work took place in Years 2 and 3.
