An area located approximately 50-90 km west-northwest of Port Augusta, abutting the southern edge of Lake Gairdner, has been explored for possible buried iron oxide - associated copper-gold±uranium (IOCG-U) mineralisation formed within the Mesoproterozoic or older basement rocks, as well as for possible younger Cenozoic palaeochannel and roll front style sedimentary uranium deposits. EL 3755, and the adjoining Scrubby Hill EL 3754 to the north, cover a region of the eastern Gawler Ranges where the Gawler Range Volcanics are locally intruded by granites of the Hiltaba Suite. The presence nearby of deep-seated and long-lived regional structures, within geological settings believed to be analogous to those at the Carrapateena prospect, was regarded as enhancing the prospectivity of the two areas. During the first licence year an assessment of the uranium potential of EL3755 was completed as a part of the overall assessment of the potential of all of Teck Cominco?s Gawler Project tenements. This assessment determined that the palaeodrainage running off the Gawler Range Volcanics through ELs 3754 and 3755 into Lake Gairdner, appears to follow numerous small shallow drainage channels. Thus, it seemed unlikely that any of these channels might contain the reduced sediments necessary to form a sedimentary type of uranium deposit. It was decided that no further work was warranted for determining the uranium potential of EL 3755, and all future work would focus on assessing the IOCG potential. No on-ground exploration was conducted on the subject licence during its three year term. Planned ground magnetic surveys, over selected combined magnetic/gravity anomaly IOCG targets believed to lie within as yet untested basement beneath and close to the base of the Gawler Range Volcanics sequence, did not take place.
