Two licence subareas located in the north-eastern Cariewerloo Basin were taken up to explore for possible economic Athabasca Basin style, unconformity - related uranium deposits of potentially high grade (>25% U), similar to the McArthur River (>400Mt U) and Cigar Lake (>300 Mt U) deposits in Saskatchewan, Canada. The subject licence forms part of a regional uranium exploration project involving another four ELs, all of which are located further south in a more shallowly buried part of the subcropping Cariewerloo Basin. The licensee's exploration model is a local hybrid of the one it uses for its exploration work in Saskatchewan; in particular, it invokes the mafic Gairdner Dyke swarm activity as a source of metasomatic fluids for mineralizing replacement of the porous late Mesoproterozoic to Neoproterozoic sedimentary basin fill, and includes the Tapley Hill Formation shales lying disconformably above the basal Pandurra Formation main target as a secondary, high level entrapment locus for mobilised uranium-bearing hydrothermal fluids. Other model factors considered to be of importance are a largely preserved original basin architecture, and the presence of strong dilational structural trends allowing for extensive post-depositional fluid movements. The only field work completed during the licence's tenure period was an infill helicoper-borne gravity survey carried out during March-April 2007 over both of the non-adjacent subareas. A total of 1514 gravity stations were read, 376 at a station spacing of 800 m x 800 m in the northern portion of the licence, and 1138 at a spacing of 400 m x 400 m in the southern portion. Planned ongoing work which included stratigraphic corehole drilling and the conduct of IP surveys did not eventuate prior to a decision being made to surrender the licence. Inability to finalise land access agreements with Native Title claimants was one reason given as to why these ground-disturbing activities did not proceed.
