The subject licence area was taken up to explore for buried economic copper mineralisation in fractured/faulted, hydrothermally-altered Neoproterozoic country rocks associated with blind, near-surface diapiric structures that may have intruded into the Bibliando Dome feature. After doing preliminary aeromagnetic data assessment and photointerpretive work, the core of the dome was mapped at 1:25,000 scale to look for mineralised fractures and evidence of hydrothermal alteration. Five localities were selected for follow-up study based on this initial appraisal, and were subjected to detailed stream sediment and rock sampling, gridding, geological mapping and soil sampling. Latterly an application for 6 months exploration tenure of a separate parcel of adjoining ground (now EL 162) has been made to include a small area covering the Valley Well galena occurrence. All other lead anomalism that was seen is attributed to only thin goethitic vein mineralisation or to weathering of much older high-Pb mica schist erratics present in tillite strata. A small portion of EL 119 adjacent to Valley Well will also be retained under short-term licence renewal to allow the further evaluation of this prospect. No significant base metal mineralisation was detected within the dome cover rocks despite the presence of widespread low order geochemical anomalism and sporadically distributed thin quartz-goethite veins carrying anomalous Cu-Co values plus a trace of gold. It is thought that perhaps the Bibliando region has not yet been eroded to a sufficient depth to expose the type of mineralisation sought.
