TARGET: Brine in fractures within a 200 foot thickness of the Wilkawillina Limestone, for salt production. EXPLORATION: Drilling of one rotary mud hole to 175.56 m, groundwater sample analyses, water yield pump tests, experimental salt recovery via evaporation pans. RESULTS: Brine at about 22.3% NaCl content, with very little impurity, was produced at rates of up to 1000 gallons per hour from a well of less than 5 inches diameter. Interim conclusions about the results achieved were presented. It was inferred that the brine obtained is held in secondary dolomite porosity and in joints in limestone. Therefore, increasing the effective diameter of production wells to say, 12 to 15 inches, would create a greater area of exposure to these reservoir openings and lead to higher rates of extraction of brine.
