The subject licence was taken up as additional 'safety acreage' that surrounds and abuts CRA's EL 1084 covering the known subcrop area of the pre-Permian Kilroo Sub-basin beneath the Polda Basin on west-central Eyre Peninsula. The exploration target was synsedimentary potash that might have formed in quantity in the older, playa lake sediments which have in part filled the restricted end section of a then developing continental rift zone. When deep drilling carried out on the adjacent EL 1084 returned discouraging results in terms of red-bed stratigraphy and mineralisation (cf. Envs 8288 and 3973), CRA's field work that had been planned for EL 1215 to further define the configuration of the Kilroo Sub-basin was not carried out. Tenure of EL 1215 was allowed to lapse at the end of licence Year 1.
