A small area located immediately north of Port Augusta, with no outcropping bedrock or recorded history of drilled pre-Adelaidean basement, has been explored for possible economic buried IOCG deposits in Proterozoic Stuart Shelf basement, and for vein style gold mineralisation associated with major fault structures in the Torrens Hinge Zone. Early work consisted of a data review, the interpretation of fault lineaments using available regional geophysical images, and some field reconnaissance with associated grab geochemical sampling (5 rock float samples and 22 soil samples). Elevated arsenic was detected in four of the soil samples, plus elevated nickel and lead also in one of them. During February-March 2008 a detailed gravity survey was acquired over the majority of the licence ground (390 stations read on a 200 m x 200 m grid). Interpretation of the new gravity data suggested that two poorly defined palaeochannels may cross the EL from north-east to south-west. The indicated range of depths to top of basement were of the order of 900 m to 1500 m, beyond the reach of intended RC drilling. Early in licence Year 4 Minop was able to review some seismic data acquired by Torrens Energy as part of its geothermal exploration in the Parachilna area stretching to the eastern margin of Lake Torrens. This data indicates an average basement depth in the central Torrens Hinge Zone that is well in excess of 1 km, beyond economically viable drilling target depth limits for copper-gold mineralisation. Accordingly, Minop chose to downgrade the prospectivity of its preferred exploration targets, and tenure of EL 3504 was allowed to lapse.
