Exploration for possible economic buried iron oxide - associated copper-gold (IOCG) deposits in two areas located approximately 100 km south-east of Coober Pedy has sought to delineate and test a number of linear and elliptical geophysical anomalies which may represent IOCG mineralising systems. Minotaur's acquisition of new gravity data during 2000, 2001 and 2003 over the now relinquished portion of the licence assisted in the delineation of the Warriner Creek gravity anomaly and the Mount Purvis magnetic/gravity anomaly, both lying along a major northeast-southwest trending basement structure crossing the eastern side of the Mount Woods Inlier. A 3D gravity data inversion model, produced in 2003, indicated a depth of ~700 m to the top of the Mount Purvis anomaly. This gravity anomaly, with an amplitude of 6 mGal, was the target for an exploratory drillhole precollared in 2004 to 211 m depth (WC04R001) and subsequently deepened by diamond drilling in 2005 to 849.75 m total depth (WC05D001). No haematitic alteration or haematite-rich breccias typical of a Prominent Hill-style mineralised system were encountered, and no evidence of pervasive regional hydrothermal alteration was seen. No anomalous assay values were recorded. A re-appraisal of the gravity data modelling for the Mount Purvis anomaly revealed that it is possible to produce consistent results between observed and computed gravity profiles by assuming reasonable parameters for a Palaeoproterozoic gneissic succession with an average density of 2.86, considerable depth extent (650-1500 m), width (3.5 km) and strike length (5.0 km). In 2005, a ground magnetic survey was undertaken over the Warriner Creek gravity anomaly to ascertain if a magnetic anomaly coincides with it. The survey data showed that a weak magnetic response occurs to the south of the residual gravity anomaly, and this geophysical setting was thought to diminish the likelihood of the Warriner Creek anomaly representing an IOCG-style deposit. A re-appraisal of the gravity data model for the Warriner Creek anomaly (amplitude ~3 mGal) also revealed that probable causative sources for it are Palaeoproterozoic gneisses with an assumed density of ~2.8 g/cc, lying at depths of 450-500 m.
