The only exploration field work completed by JV operator Perilya on the relinquished subareas of the tenement was a review made during 2008 of the magnesite potential of the licence, along with that of EL 3111 (now EL 4211) located adjacent to the south. This work included geological mapping, rock chip sampling and measurements of bed thicknesses across the known magnesite prospects. Results of this work were submitted in the 2008 Annual Technical Report for the Aroona Joint Venture Group. Although it was concluded that there was potential for identifying a large tonnage, near-surface magnesite deposit, the prevailing market factors for magnesite, including consumption and production forecasts and possible price fluctuations, were considered highly volatile. Given the joint venture's mandate for the discovery of additional Beltana - type zinc silicate reserves associated with the Cambrian-Proterozoic stratigraphic contact in the Flinders Ranges area, continuing with magnesite exploration was considered a low priority. However, the fact that limited zinc exploration work has so far been completed on the subject tenement is due largely to the realisation that the prospective Cambrian-Proterozoic contact is not exposed on it, but is instead likely to lie beneath significant thicknesses of cover rocks. Drilling is therefore the only method to effectively explore this licence, which is considered cost prohibitive. The JV's current opinion is that its exploration budget can be better utilized in other licence areas located along strike to the south, where more traditional prospecting and geochemical tools can be used to generate drill targets. Nevertheless, a small portion of EL 4153 is being retained given its proximity to known exposures of the Cambrian-Proterozoic contact on EL 4211.
