Exploration for stratabound copper mineralisation in the Mount Lyndhurst area, allied with intensive prospecting of existing Mineral Claims and other historic base metal prospects and reported showings, has demonstrated a favourable geological environment for the widely disseminated occurrence of low grade vein, diapiric and syngenetic/replacement deposits of malachite and cuprite after chalcopyrite, within fractures and shear/crush zones developed along or near a particular stratigraphic boundary within the Burra Group glacial sedimentary sequence. Besides conducting a major percussion drilling programme to prove up additional copper ore reserves in the vicinity of old workings on the Lorna Doone and Lynda prospects, and carrying out detailed geological mapping and costeaning around the abandoned Great Mount Lyndhurst mine, the contractor to Cultus completed broader-focussed stream sediment and auger soil sampling surveys over surrounding areas and at Yerelina and Willow Bore, targetting gold, zinc, nickel and manganese as well as copper. Several copper anomalies deemed worthy of possible later follow-up were identified. A ground radiometric survey of residual Cretaceous and Tertiary sediments in the Frome River area was undertaken to search for sedimentary uranium deposits, without success.
