As part of a regional search for outlying, fault-controlled IOCG-U type primary uranium deposits that may have formed near the south-western margin of the known Gawler Range Volcanics subcrop area in the vicinity of Streaky Bay, the licensee conducted a review and GIS compilation of all available previous mineral exploration data, before acquiring a 403 station infill gravity survey on a 400 m x 400 m grid, plus 82 line km of ground magnetic traverses, that were designed to upgrade three poorly delineated, undrilled gravity anomalies to drillable status. This Envelope dataset presents the geophysical modelling interpretation of the new gravity and magnetic results. This work concluded that the majority of anomalies are associated with Archaean gabbroic and/or mafic intrusive rocks, and that little potential exists for finding uranium mineralisation within the surrounding St Peter Suite felsic rocks. By the third licence year the uranium search target emphasis had shifted from the basement to the cover, using geophysics to map Tertiary palaeochannel structures which are known to transect the Streaky Bay coastal district and which could be prospective for secondary, roll-front style mineralisation. During January-February 2008 Southern Uranium contracted Daishsat to acquire a helicopter-assisted semi-regional gravity survey across two ELs, including EL 3712, for a total of 794 stations read on a 1 km x 1 km grid. The outcome of this latest work will be separately reported in Env 11867.
