Three small licence subareas located approximately 85 km east of Tarcoola were assessed by a consultant, via desktop studies of available geoscientific data, for their diamond potential. It was concluded that the thick sedimentary cover of the Mesoproterozoic Pandurra Formation in the Cariewerloo Basin would inhibit the conduct of conventional diamond search techniques such as remote sensing or magnetic detection of possible kimberlite intrusions, and increase the cost of any exploratory drilling to test targets. Because the locality has no previous history of discovery of kimberlite or its indicators, and no Mesozoic lamprophyres or alkali igneous intrusions are known to exist there, its prospectivity was perceived to be much dowgraded, and the ground was surrendered.
