The subject licence, located approximately 60 km south-east of Leigh Creek, forms part of a much larger tenement package currently being explored by Perilya, primarily looking for zinc silicate mineralisation similar to the Beltana deposit, although the area is also regarded as quite prospective for lead-zinc sulphide and copper mineralization. A large synclinal structure trends east-west across EL 3274, and is cored by Cambrian limestones of the Wilkawillina Formation and flanked by Proterozoic quartzites and sandstones of the Rawnsley Formation. Several historic mineral prospects occur in the northern part of the licence area, which are predominantly copper-gold showings, most notably at the Angepena Treasure mine. The bedrock geology within the surrendered portion of the tenement consists primarily of Proterozoic quartzites plus minor Cambrian carbonate rocks. No mineral prospects are known to occur here. No field work has been done within the now relinquished portion of EL 3274. Reconnaissance geological mapping and geochemical sampling have been completed around the historic copper prospects in the northern half of the tenement, and these localities will be the foci of future work on the tenement.
