In a search for possible economic Mesoproterozoic or Palaeoproterozoic basement-hosted gold and base metal mineralisation within two small licence subareas located about 55-75 km north-east of Poochera, Minotaur Exploration undertook a review of existing geological and geophysical information to guide its intended activities. During April-May 2005, PIRSA as part of a State government-funded exploration initiative had conducted a major regional gravity survey over a vast area of ground west of the Gawler Ranges, that included total coverage for the now subject EL 3486. The gravity station spacing was ~2 km x 2 km. Minotaur determined from its review of this gravity data that there are no significant positive Bouguer gravity anomalies on EL 3486. The company's review of available geochemical data from reported sampling of all historical mineral exploration drillholes and mapped rock exposures on the licence area indicated that no anomalous Au, Cu, Pb and Zn had been recorded. All the assay values are very low, consistent with the presence of typical unaltered Gawler Range Volcanics and Hiltaba Suite granites in basement rock exposures which are widely distributed across much of the tenement. Toro Energy and Trafford Resources, as operators for later exploration programmes meeting the terms of their separate joint venture agreements with Minotaur, chose to undertake no uranium or IOCG - related high grade magnetite exploration work on EL 3486 during its currency, other than proprietary desktop studies of prospectivity.
