Two project tenements enclosing a nearly 40 km long section of the deep-seated, east-west trending Cygnet-Snelling Shear Zone have been explored for possible economic gold and base metal sulphide mineralisation. A number of historic mine workings and available records of past company exploration activities show evidence of the presence of a shallowly buried, extensive hydrothermal alteration and vein stockwork system in the local Cambrian sedimentary bedrock, that is clearly related to the fault structure. After making a strategic review of the company’s assets, Monax recently decided that the greater part of its Kangaroo Island Project ground outside of the Bonaventura, Kohinoor, Western River and Dewrang prospects, in particular the main flexure of the Cygnet-Snelling Fault Zone, did not warrant further exploration. As a result, 94% of the Western River tenement has now been relinquished. No exploration was conducted on the relinquished area during the period 13 June 2009 – 12 June 2010, but exploration conducted on it during the period 22 May 2003 – 12 June 2009 included the acquisition of gravity and aeromagnetic surveys, plus soil and rock chip sampling. None of this work was undertaken by Havilah. During February 2006 a helicopter-assisted ground-gravity survey of 213 stations was completed by Daishsat Geodetic Surveyors, with stations read on a 1 km x 1 km spaced grid. The raw gravity data was included in the 2007 annual report for EL 3088, and the gravity data that was obtained from the 82 stations read within the relinquished area can now be released to open file. During 2008, Monax flew an airborne magnetic and radiometric survey totalling 3439 line km with a flight line spacing of 100 m and a nominal 50 m sensor height, which covered both of Monax’s Parndana (EL3376) and Western River (EL3088) tenements. The survey raw data was included in the 2008 annual report, and the data that was obtained from within the relinquished area can now be released to open file. During 2008, as part of an ongoing programme, 43 hand augered soil geochemical samples were collected. The assay results were included in the 2008 annual report, but a copy of them is also appended to the subject report. During 2008-2009, 9 regional rock chip geochemical samples were collected, predominantly in conjunction with the soil sampling. The results have been reported in the 2009 annual report, but a copy of them is also appended to the subject report.
