An area located at the south-eastern end of the Lake Phillipson Trough in the Arckaringa Basin has been taken up primarily to investigate potential palaeochannels containing lignites or pyritic sands of both Permian and Mesozoic age, which it is believed could host uranium mineralisation. To date the licence operator Marmota Energy has undertaken detailed ground gravity surveys and extensive airborne EM, magnetic and radiometric surveys over the retained portion of the tenement, but no exploration has taken place on the now relinquished southern part of EL 3909. This ground has been dropped due to its distance from the south-western boundary of the Mount Woods Inlier (an updip basement source of mobilised uranium in groundwater); the apparent lack of distinctive palaeochannels as noted by past explorers; and, more importantly, because it coincides with the recently declared exclusion zone for mineral exploration company access within the Commonwealth Government's Woomera Prohibited Area.
