Exploration of the Tertiary Thurlga Palaeochannel for possible roll front type sedimentary uranium mineralisation has occurred principally on EL 3546 Mount Ive, the northern half of which has now been relinquished along with a tiny part of EL 3833 Corrobinnie lying to the south. During November 2007 a gravity survey was conducted across the entire Mount Ive licence (including, within the relinquished portion, 419 stations read on a 1 km x 1 km grid and along an additional 3 lines spaced 250 m apart). During October 2008 a helicopter-borne aerial EM (RepTEM) survey was acquired over three of the JV project licences, which included four test AEM lines on Mount Ive covering 70 line km. During September-October 2009 six traverses of aircore drilling were completed within the relinquished portion of Mount Ive, the traverses comprising 38 holes with a total penetration of 1240 m, put in at 400 m intervals. The positions of the drill traverses were based on Quasar's interpretations of DEM images to identify palaeovalleys, and on previous explorers' data about the location and extent of the palaeochannel system and anomalous surface geochemistry. The aim of the drilling was to assess the uranium mineralisation prospectivity of the Thurlga Palaeochannel sediments, and also to evaluate the lead-zinc potential of the Proterozoic bedrock. Downhole geophysical logging was performed in 10 of the drillholes, with readings taken through the drilling rods using an Auslog gamma sonde. Equivalent uranium grade (eU3O8) was calculated from the gamma log response, and as a check, 511 x 4 m composite drill cuttings samples were submitted for geochemical assaying, in part to assess the degree of radiogenic disequilibrium. Within the relinquished portion of the licence, the Cainozoic strata were found to comprise a calcareous upper regolith underlain by colluvial sediments and then reduced, clayey lacustrine sediments containing very few sand or gravel interbeds. Interpretation of the downhole gamma ray logs showed that none of the drillholes had made significant uranium intersections of more than the minimum required equivalent grade (0.010% eU3O8 over a 0.5 m interval).
