Gold Fields has identified the Delamerian Fold Belt of South Australia as being prospective for sediment hosted, orogenic style gold mineralisation analogous to that occurring at Telfer, WA (a >26 Moz deposit). Work completed over the now relinquished portion of EL 3539 during the period 29 August 2006 to 18 April 2011 has comprised the reprocessing and interpretation of existing open file gravity and aeromagnetic data, conducting a review of environmental factors, and acquiring a new detailed, helicopter supported gravity survey that comprised 94 gravity stations read at 1.5 km x 1.5 km spacing. The area relinquished is now considered to have a low exploration potential for finding gold in the buried Proterozoic and Cambrian metasedimentary sequence, due to the thickness of overlying Murray Basin Cretaceous and Tertiary cover.
