Exploration for possible economic heavy mineral sands carried out by Iluka Resources within an area centred 100 km west of Tarcoola has consisted only of desktop studies and failed joint venture negotiations - no field work was done. The background research indicated that this part of the Barton Range is unlikely to host mineral sand deposits.
