EPP 4 covering the shelf area of the Great Australian Bight was granted to Outback Oil Company N.L. on 12/12/1968. Following the drilling of Apollo 1 in 1975 a geological review and evaluation was conducted of the licence area in light of the shallow Pre-Cambrian granite intersected in the well. The interpreted thick Mesozoic sequence that was the primary stratigraphic objective of the well was not confirmed and the operator deemed the Denman basin to be un-prospective for hydrocarbons and the licence was subsequently surrendered in 11/12/1979.
