An area located on and closely marginal to the Denison Inlier of the Proterozoic Peake and Denison Ranges, approximately 80 km south-east of Oodnadatta, was explored for possible roll-front style sedimentary uranium deposits that may have formed within oxidised Mesozoic sandstones which rest unconformably on the Proterozoic basement, since the latter comprise some rocks known to have high background levels of contained uranium. Another style of uranium mineralisation which it was anticipated might also occur is palaeodrainage-controlled sandstone and conglomerate hosted deposits. As part of its research activities supporting planned drilling, Red Metal investigated low temperature SQUID EM as a ground geophysical tool for ranking geophysical targets prior to drill target selection. However, no field work was conducted on EL 3839 due to the company concentrating its attention on other exploration licences that it held in the region. Eventually it decided not to renew tenure of the subject licence because of a lack of positive indications of sedimentary uranium revealed by its work on nearby tenements.
