An area located 34 km east of Port Pirie was applied for by Copper Range to cover historic iron occurrences and some identified magnetic anomalies considered to have similar characteristics to the promising haematite-rich Hicks Quarry target on the company's adjacent EL 4368. Locally, outcrop is limited, with most of the tenement being covered by Tertiary and Quaternary sediments. Basement metasedimentary rocks are Neoproterozoic units of the Burra Group comprising sandstone, siltstone, dolomite and other sediments. During December 2009-January 2010 a detailed gravity survey was completed over the Huddleston iron mine, and another, similar gravity survey was separately run to investigate Magnetic Anomaly “D”. A robust gravity anomaly was defined at the Huddleston prospect adjacent to the historic mine, by 584 stations read along 26 lines that formed a 100 m x 50 m grid. The new gravity data disclosed a >2 km long, 1.2 mGal target thought to represent a shallowly buried massive ironstone, on which the former mine workings may have tapped a surficially reworked portion. 11 rock chip samples were collected during a field inspection of this gravity anomaly, but the target ironstone does not appear to outcrop, so the samples were taken from outcrop and float consisting of iron-enriched, possibly younger ?Tertiary indurated sediments, that yielded up to 48.6% Fe. No significant gravity anomaly was recorded at Magnetic Anomaly “D”, and consequently no further work was proposed for this prospect. During July 2010 Copper Range drilled 3 exploratory RC holes for a total penetration of 316 m along an E-W traverse at the Huddleston gravity anomaly, but no significant iron occurrence or other mineralisation was encountered (the maximum iron assay value was 4.17% Fe by XRF analysis, from the depth interval 88-90 m in hole HUDRC003). It was decided to postpone any further work on EL 4268, as planning its scope would depend on the results of the company's follow-up drilling at the Hicks prospect on the adjacent EL 4368 Caltowie, to be conducted late in 2011.
