Exploration for possible Proterozoic basement-hosted mesothermal gold mineralisation in rocks bounding the Labyrinth Shear Zone, 18 km north-west of Kingoonya, has consisted only of the acquisition of an airborne magnetic/radiometric survey (4847 line km flown during January-April 2011 along 100 m spaced north-south lines at a nominal 40 m sensor height above the surface) and interpretation of the resulting data. Adverse weather conditions of high rainfall and surface flooding delayed commencement of further work, although a field reconnaissance visit was able to be made in June 2012 to inspect selected magnetic anomaly targets and assess regolith and other geological factors that could influence planned follow-up surface geochemical sampling and later aircore or RC drilling. Previous work carried out by Dominion Mining and Mount Isa Mines in 1988 at the North Hicks prospect on EL 1988 had disclosed minor gold mineralisation associated with surface calcrete anomalies, and confirming and extending this occurrence was the principal aim of the current exploration programme. Subsequently, for reasons unspecified, the licensee chose to allow the tenement to expire after 12/7/2012.
