Exploration conducted over an area of the western Adelaide Fold Belt centred about 15 km east of Port Germein was designed to appraise the subsurface gold and copper potential of a possibly economically mineralised diapir or diatreme present in the vicinity of the historic Whyte Park mine and nearby lesser surface copper workings. Due to the large number of private vineyards recently developed on land covering the southern, better exposed portion of the structural inlier, it was decided to concentrate attention on the smaller, more covered northern portion, which lies within a SA state forestry reserve. Work undertaken by Archer Exploration during the first 18 months of licence tenure comprised a geophysical image interpretation of available magnetic and gravity data for the region, plus the collection and assaying of 380 soil samples and 102 rock chip samples. The results of the soil sampling identified copper and chromium anomalies of interest which appeared to be associated with faults bounding the northern inlier portion. Eight selected rock chip samples were examined petrographically to characterise the variety of rock types present in the inlier and to advance ideas about their likely origin. During 2010 it was planned to acquire new gravity data over the inlier area, since it was thought that the existing regional spaced data was too sparse to permit useful density modelling of potential drill targets at depth. No further work was done before a change in corporate exploration focus caused the licensee to decide to surrender the tenement.
