An assessment has been made of the economic potential of several adjacent albite feldspar deposits jointly known as the Manna Hill occurrence, which are associated with pegmatites formed within the eastern Weekeroo Inlier near Weekeroo Hill, approximately 24 km north-west of Manna Hill. Since 1996, when the first deposit, Mother Lode, was discovered, a number of albite-rich pegmatites have been located in an east-west belt about 10 km long. The Mother Lode and Three Horsemen occurrences have been much drilled and sampled in recent years, leading to the extraction of ~1500 tonnes of feldspar from them by Manna Hill Mining Co. Pty Ltd (now Ausfel Pty Ltd, the successful applicant for the subject EL 3294 that currently covers the belt of feldspar occurrences). However, the Sunset Ridge and Western group of occurrences were still awaiting testing. In May 2005, potential customer UNIMIN Australia collected 3 pegmatitic feldspar chip samples from the pit face at Mother Lode and another 4 from outcrop at Sunset Ridge, for silicate analysis. The results indicated that the Mother Lode material is consistently high grade albite, with 11.1-11.8% Na2O and low K2O of 0.10-0.13%. In contrast, only one sample from Sunset Ridge 00023 was of similar composition. In August 2005, Richard Martin of UNIMIN geologically mapped the Sunset Ridge deposit by GPS, and collected 26 bulk rock chip samples from 10 m intervals along 14 traverses across the pegmatite outcrop. These samples were chemically analysed, and the mineralogy of two samples was determined by XRF spectroscopy. UNIMIN concluded that the Sunset Ridge feldspar was of too low a grade to warrant further investigation. Planned further evaluation work at the Mother Lode, Three Horsemen and Western feldspar deposits did not occur during the following five years owing to management focus on other matters, and an inability to raise appraisal and development funding through the commercial marketplace.
