An area extending for approximately 80-115 km south-east of Tarcoola has been explored for possible economic mesothermal gold±copper mineralisation formed in Mesoproterozoic igneous basement, possible unconformity - related uranium mineralisation at the base of the overlying sedimentary Pandurra Formation, and possible roll front style sedimentary uranium mineralisation that may exist within the Tertiary Kingoonya Palaeochannel. The potential of a number of previously reported broad and up to 2 km long, west-northwest trending +5 ppb gold-in-calcrete anomalies was investigated by licence operator Venture Minerals, who conducted mobile metal ion soil sampling during late 2006 and early 2007 (55 + 132 samples collected for aqua regia digest and enzyme leach multi-element analyses). However, the tenor of the earlier gold and copper results could not be replicated by the new geochemical data, and therefore the prospectivity of the local Gawler Craton basement rocks for gold as the principal target commodity was downgraded. A shift of exploration focus to searching for palaeochannel uranium was made during 2008, and Mega Hindmarsh Pty Ltd was accepted by Venture Minerals as a secondary joint venture partner during January 2009. An 8 km long upstream section of the Kingoonya Palaeochannel, with no recorded open file information about any prior exploratory drilling, was seen as a prime objective. However, no new field activities related to this objective ensued during licence Years 3, 4 and 5. After Doray Minerals took up ownership of the subject licence in October 2010, the search for Hiltaba Suite intrusion-related structural lode gold within Proterozoic basement was resumed by the flying of an airborne magnetic/radiometric survey over this area, plus several other Doray tenements (e.g. Nuckulla Hill and Hicks) located within the Central Gawler Gold Province. Over renewed EL 4743, 2703 line km of airborne data was acquired during May-June 2011 along 100 m spaced north-south lines, with a 40 m sensor height. The results of the airborne survey were to be used, in conjunction with historic data, to concoct a suitable exploration strategy and to define targets meriting more detailed exploration. However, the tighter access controls lately imposed by the Australian Commonwealth Department of Defence within the Woomera Prohibited Area (WPA) slowed Doray Minerals' progress in performing its planned further regional surface geochemical sampling and aircore drilling of gold targets. Ultimately it was decided not to continue tenure because of the unacceptable work compliance requirements which the authorities have made for this portion of the WPA.
