Since late 2007, Trafford Resources has been exploring for possible buried economic IOCG or skarn style metallic mineral deposits within the four subject licences located in the southern Gawler Ranges, as part of the larger Wilcherry Hill Project centred on EL 4162. These apparently underexplored areas lie marginal to the buried Hiltaba Suite granite pluton which is thought responsible for generating the significant Menninnie Dam and Telephone Dam base metal deposits and the Weednanna gold deposit. Because the available older aeromagnetic and radiometric data for these areas had been acquired on a regional scale only, at 400 m flight line spacing, the company wished to acquire more detailed infill airborne geophysical surveys to allow improved resolution of any discrete magnetic and radiometric anomalies which might coincide with the numerous recorded surface geochemical anomalies. Trafford is mainly seeking iron, copper-lead-zinc, silver and gold mineralised targets associated with magnetic highs and demagnetised, possibly hydrothermally altered zones, and is also exploring for uranium mineralisation that could be related to structural features/fluid conduits reflected in magnetic lineaments. Accordingly, during July 2011 Trafford made formal application for and was later successful in receiving a grant of PACE 2020 Targeting Initiative Year 1 part-subsidy funds to defray the cost of acquiring the new airborne survey. During October-November 2011 contractor Aerosystems flew the subject helicopter-borne magnetic and radiometric survey over three separate areas. A total of 11,116 line km was flown at 80 m east-west line spacing with a 40 m sensor mean terrain clearance.
