Two adjoining licence areas located immediately west and north-west of Port Augusta, which cover the southern end of the Cariewerloo Basin and extend north-westwards for 60 km, are being explored for possible economic unconformity-style uranium mineralisation that may have formed at the interface between porous sediments of the Mesoproterozoic Pandurra Formation and underlying fractured uraniferous Mesoproterozoic to Archaean basement rocks. During the first year of tenure, a review of previous exploration reports was made, which showed that the basal Pandurra strata had received little attention from earlier explorers. Available drillhole data on the depth to the Pandurra/basement unconformity was sparse, and Afmeco realised that information about the geology and structuration of the basement in the licence areas would need to be better understood in order to generate drilling targets. It was also noted that the licence areas lie within the ambit of four overlapping Native Title claims, and in consequence, gaining legal access for on-ground activities might become a lengthy process. During the period September 2007-February 2008 a limited programme of reconnaissance ground electrical surveying was performed along three east-west traverses located approximately 10 km apart, to try to obtain conductivity data which might reveal details of the basin fill geometry. 75.95 line km of mainly naturally-sourced audio-frequency magnetotelluric (NSAMT) data were recorded from 435 stations read at mostly 200 m station spacing, after some initial readings had been made at 50 m and 100 m station intervals. It was found that the controlled source CSAMT alternative method also attempted could not give adequate signal penetration down to the basement-cover unconformity, owing to highly conductive overburden. Some deep conductive features were discernible in the NSAMT data, but a full interpretation was postponed until further ground geophysical surveying could be carried out. Negotiations for unfettered on-ground exploration access were begun after July 2008, and an acceptance agreement with the Barngala Native Title claimant group was signed on 20/2/2009, but separate negotiations with the Nukunu Aboriginal Community who had made an overlapping land ownership claim could not be concluded before the end of the subject licences' terms came about. No further work ensued on the subject licences during Years 4 and 5, before formal application was made by Afmeco to renew their tenure for a second 5-year term.

Notes: Torrens Energy Ltd has taken up a geothermal exploration licence (GEL) at South Tent Hill, where it proposes to drill up to three ~1800 m deep exploratory wells close to the Torrens Hinge Zone. When these wells are completed, basic data obtained by them will after the passage of 2 years become public information that Afmeco intends to use to aid its uranium search. Geographic Locality: South Tent Hill;North Tent Hill;2008 Tent Hill CSAMT/NSAMT Survey Doc No: Env 11270
